Perseverance Will Be This Year the Theme of the World Judo Day
On October 28th there will be another World Judo Day’s edition
Since 2011, the 28th of October, Jigoro Kano’s date of birth, has been celebrated as the World Judo Day. Each year IJF chooses a theme to be developed in several projects regarding children and young people around the globe. In the first edition, in 2011, 50 projects spread across 35 countries developed the theme of respect. In 2012, Judo For All - a project that aims teaching sport to children, with no sports results and focusing on the disciplines advocated by judo - was developed by 106 social projects in 68 different countries. In 2013, perseverance will be the theme.
\"Dear judokas and judo passionate, on the occasion of the World Judo Day I would like to ask all judo communities around the world to follow, protect and promote the Olympic spirit and values, as well as of our sport. I would like you to be united and solidary and that through the judo’s energy and spirit, we can improve together our community and build a better world, \"said the president of the International Judo Federation, Marius Vizer.
The World Judo Day is considered an opportunity for the sports community to show that the judo’s values and spirit mean more than sports. The judo is an educational tool that teaches people how to live in harmony and respect for others. For the judo lovers, this day is an opportunity to promote the sport in their area through demonstrations, contests and free lessons.
