IJF Releases the Ranking Update after the World Judo Championship Rio 2013

According to general expectations, the International Judo Federation released on Wednesday, September 4th, after the World Judo Championship Rio 2013, the ranking update considering the scores from this competition. From Brazil, Sarah Menezes (48kg), Mayra Aguiar (78kg) and Maria Suelen Altheman (+78 kg) are still leading the ranking. The first two athletes were bronze medalists whereas the latter was silver awarded in the most important championship of the year.

The world champion Rafaela Silva (57kg) switched from the fourth position to the second one, just 300 points less than the leader Automne Pavia from France. Another judoka who took the second position in the ranking was the silver medalist in the World Championship, Erika Miranda (52kg). She is tied with the Japanese Yuki Hashimoto, both of them having scored 1670 points. The ranking is led by Majlinda Kelmendi from Kosovo, who won the gold in Rio.

Among men, Victor Penalber (81kg) and Rafael Silva (+100 kg) went back to their second position behind Avtandili Tchrikishvili (GEO) and Teddy Riner (FRA), respectively. Still in the top five, Brazil has two male athletes. Felipe Kitadai (60kg) is in the fifth, the same position as Charles Chibana’s (66kg) who climbed two positions after his fifth place in the World Judo Championship.
