Grand Slam from Russia Will Be Hosted by Another City
The competition is still being held in Russia, but it goes to East
Starting from 2014, Grand Slam from Russia will be held in Tyumen and not in Moscow anymore. Thus, the city joins Paris, Tokyo and Baku which host four of the major world tournaments. The information has been made official by the President of the International Judo Federation, Marius Vizer, during the World Combat Games from St. Petersburg.
“We have already organized important events around Tyumen, the latter being the World Masters, held in May. This is a region supporting not only the sport, but also the education, which we consider highly important. “said President Vizer when signing the contract that entitled the city the rights to host the competition for the next three years.
At the meeting, another document was signed: the Challenge by Teams Europe vs Asia in the next two years. In this competition, 14 of the best athletes from every continent - seven of each gender – will face each other in a module by teams. In 2014, the host-city will be again Tyumen; however, in 2015, the “home advantage\" will be Asian.
“After two editions, 2014 and 2015, we will evaluate the event, but I am confident that the Challenge will continue and will travel to many countries. We believe it will attract much attention from the media and the audience will enjoy watching the competition, “added President Marius Vizer.
