Champion in Chelyabinsk, Mayra Aguiar Gets the Second Place in the World Ranking

The International Judo Federation released on Wednesday, September 4th, the updated world ranking after the Chelyabinsk 2014 World Championship. The world champion Mayra Aguiar moved up two positions in the chart and she is now second ranked among the half-heavyweight. She is still behind the vice world champion Audrey Tcheumeo but with a difference of only 60 points.

Other Brazilian medalists in the competition held the same positions as before the most important world tournament of this year. The bronze medalist in the half lightweight category, Erika Miranda, is still second behind the twice world champion Majlinda Kelmendi. Maria Suelen Altheman is also just behind the two times World Champion and Olympic champion Idalys Ortiz among the heavy. Rafael Silva is still the leader of the heavy, ahead of Teddy Riner who that with the seventh individual world title, is now second placed, having 340 points less than Baby. David Moura, placed fifth in the World Judo Championship, is now the seventh.

Besides Baby, Charles Chibana (66kg) is also the number one in his category, followed closely by Pulyaev Mikhail (RUS) and Masashi Ebinuma (JPN). The Olympic champion Sarah Menezes (48kg) is second placed, behind the Mongol Urantsetseg Munkhbat. The world champions Ami Kondo is now in third place. The other lightweight athletes, Felipe Kitadai and Eric Takabatake, who participated in the World Judo Championship, are in the fifth and fifteenth place respectively.

Two other athletes are third positioned. Victor Penalber is behind Avtandili Tchkrishvili (GEO), the world champion, and Loic Pietri (FRA), bronze medalist, in the half middleweight. Rafaela Silva, fifth in the World Judo Championship, has been overcome by the French Automne Pavia, her tormentor in the contention for bronze, and the German Miryam Roper, who did not climb the podium either. The bronze medalist in Beijing 2008 Ketleyn Quadros is in the eighth place.

The position of the other Brazilians who were in this World’s edition did not change much. Alex Pombo (73kg) is the sixth and Tiago Camilo (90kg) is the 13th. Luciano Correa is the 10th, the best placed Brazilian in this category.

In women, the best Brazilian in the half middleweight category is Mariana Barros, who could not compete in the World due to an injury. She is in twelfth place. Mariana Silva, her substitute who had two wins in the World, is the 18th. The leader of this category is the world champion Clarisse Agbegnenou (FRA).

Barbara Timo (70kg) is the twentieth. The Dutch Kim Polling who was off the podium during the World Judo Championships is the leader. The three-time world champion, Yuri Alvear, is second placed.
