With 5 Podiums, the Brazilian Cadet Team Ends Its Participation in Berlin in the Third Place within the Medal Chart

The Brazilian young judo talents excelled and placed the country in a highlighted position this weekend. While ten senior athletes were competing in the Grand Prix of Zagreb in Croatia, their cadet counterparts were fighting in Germany. The European Cadets Cup had the best athletes from France, Russia, Japan, the Netherlands, Germany and Kazakhstan, to name just some of the forces of the world judo. With two gold medals won by João Paulo Corrêa (50kg) and Jeferson Santos Junior (66kg), a silver one awarded to Jessica Silva (44kg) and two bronze won by Michael Marcelino (60kg) and Bianca Rosa (40kg), Brazil reached the third place in the medal chart, after Russia and Japan.

"France, which came with Lucie Decosse as the main coach of its  team, did not win any medals. Germany, hosting the event, won only one gold. But Brazil showed progress again in this age group and therefore we are pleased with the result because it puts us among the world powers, "stated Marcelo Theotônio, the manager of the cadet and junior teams, recalling that Brazilian judokas had already won in the past one silver award and two bronze medals, which has been considered its best performance so far.

The team will stay in Berlin until Wednesday, May 06th, taking part in the training camp and then it will come home. Until April 25th, the athletes stayed in Pindamonhangaba, Paraíba Valley, São Paulo, where they spent two daily training sessions. The competition was the penultimate opportunity to score points for National Cadet Ranking, which is the criterion for participating in the World Championship of Sarajevo (BIH). The last chance is the Brazilian Cadet Championship which will be held in Campo Grande, on May 30th and 31st. In order to confirm the call for the World Cup, the athletes must achieve a minimum score and this one will be decided by the Cadet and Junior Teams Management.

Apart from Marcelo, the technical committee will be composed of the coaches Douglas Potrich and Danusa Shira; the physiotherapists Fabiano Ivo and Thiago Ferreira as well as the coach assistant Matheus Theotônio.
