The Brazilian Women's Team Won the Fifth Place in the World Cadet Championship

The Brazilian female judokas entered the mats of the 2015 Sarajevo Championship for the last time on Sunday 09th in order to compete in the team fights. With a team composed of Gabriela Clemente (48kg), Franciele Terenzi (52kg), Vitória Andrade (57kg), Samara Contarini (63kg) and Beatriz Souza (+ 70kg), the girls reached the bronze contention against Russia, but finished on the fifth place. On the other hand, the Brazilian male team did not pass the first match against France and consequently they did not reach the fights for medals.

Before reaching the decision for the third place, the girls won Poland by three to two, fell in the quarter by four to one against the strong Japanese team and recovered in the repechage by 4-1 against Kazakhstan, with a victory due to Victoria Andrade (57kg) who performed a Shido in golden score that made the team go forward. In the medal’s decision, the Russian managed three consecutive ippons and were victorious.

The men's team debut against France, but could not score and was eliminated. Michael Marcelino (60kg) opened the series, but he lost by a yuko against Reda Seddouki. Jeferson Santos Jr and Luanh Saboya were disqualified by Hansoku-make. Igo Morishigue (81kg) and João Gonçalves (+ 90kg) entered the mat, but they had no chance of turning the lead and both lost by ippon.

With individual achievements, Brazil closed the competition with two silver and two bronze medals, four fifth places and three seventh places, evolving in comparison with the World Judo Championship’s last edition, when the country won two bronzes.

The national cadet team will come back to Brazil on Tuesday, 11th, landing in the country only on Wednesday, 12th. On the same day, the senior team leaves for Astana World Championship in 2015.
