The Brazilian Cadet Team Says Goodbye to Sarajevo on Tuesday and They Bring Home Four Medals

The cadet national team boards back to Brazil on Tuesday,             August 11th  after winning four medals - two silver and two bronze-  at the World Cadet Championship, the last competition of the cadets in 2015. Apart from these medals, Brazil still got three fifth and three seventh places, putting half of the team among the world's seven best ones in eight different weight classes.

With the two bronze medals won by Jessica Silva (44kg) and Beatriz Souza (+ 70kg), the women's team repeated the podiums of the last World Championship held in Miami, but also got a fifth and a seventh place, with Victoria Andrade (57kg) and Gabriela Clemente (48kg ).

"In our preparation, we work a lot with kumi kata (grip) and the transition to ne-waza (fight on the ground). All athletes have evolved, but those who were more committed had the best results in this very strong competition. Vitória was one of the athletes who have evolved a lot during the process and showed a lot of attitude and determination in this World Championship, as well as Jessica and Bia, for instance. In the fight by teams we had a good performance against Poland and Kazakhstan, but we lost in the contention against the two major powers of the world judo which are Japan and Russia ", said the coach of the women's team, Danusa Shira, reminding the fifth place reached by the girls in the fight by teams.

Douglas Potrich, the coach of the men's team, has also stressed the development of athletes who led Brazil to two finals. Michael Marcelino (60kg) and Igor Morishigue (81kg) were silver medalists, but the boys still won two fifth with João Paulo Correia (50kg) and Renan Torres (55kg) and two seventh, with Bruno Watanabe (50kg) and Mike Pinheiro (55kg).

"We had been working on the challenges each athlete had to overcome. We lost a lot in ne-waza and we can improve it. Certainly we have seen progress and the best results came exactly from those who had more work to do. We are on the right track, but there is still much to do for improvement. From 2013 to 2015 we managed to mitigate these difficulties and this could be seen in the results from Bosnia, "the coach of the men’s team stated.
