The World Champion Tawany Silva Fights in Her Third Pan American Championship
The Cadet and Junior Teams are concentrated in Pindamonhangaba for the Pan American Championships, which will be held on July 12th and 13th in El Salvador. Among the called athletes there is Tawany Silva (48kg/SP), world junior champion in Kiev in 2011. Today, the 19 years old judoka is part again of the women's team who will compete in the Pan-American Championship.
With important titles in her background, Tawany Silva is confident about winning her third gold medal in the Pan-American Judo Championship and she is already making plans. "I might bring the gold back to Brazil. Besides, I have an appointment two weeks later, when I fight in the last stage of the European Junior Circuit, which is point-worth for the World Judo Championships," the athlete said.
The automatically qualified athletes for the Junior World Championship to be held in Miami, from 20th to 27th October will be those who score at least 500 points in the national rankings, after the 6th Stage of the World Junior Circuit held in Berlin from July 23rd to August 06th. The leaders who do not achieve the required score will be under the technical committee’s evaluation whether it is possible to participate as well.
Despite being the leader of the national ranking in the extra-lightweight category (48kg), Tawany Silva has not yet reached the required score. With 290 points, the athlete from São Paulo has been engaged and she is focused on the chance to fight in another World Championship. "I'm training hard and doing everything to get one more convocation to the World Championships and by will of God I will bring my second medal," the athlete said.
Tawany Silva will stay in Pindamonhangaba with her 34 team mates until tomorrow, when she leaves Brazil and flies to El Salvador.
