The Brazilians Are the Champions of the Second Stage of the World Junior Tour
Nathália Mercadante (48kg), Aléxia Castilhos (63kg) and Daniel Cargnin (66kg) fought this weekend in Puerto Rico.
The members of the Brazilian Junior National Judo Team who represent the country in the World Tour 2015 keep their good performance. After becoming champions last weekend in the Dominican Republic, Nathália Mercadante, Aléxia Castilhos and Daniel Cargnin won the first prize in the second stage of the circuit, this time held in Puerto Rico on Sunday, 25th .
Daniel benefited from the absence of the first opponent and so he continued in the competition, facing a home opponent whom he overcame by ippon. The final was against the Costa Rican Julian Sancho, third placed in the world rankings, and the Brazilian won it by a yuko.
The girls did not have an easy life either and Aléxia Castilhos had to overcome four opponents (the United States, Chile, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico) before becoming the champion for the second consecutive week. Nathália’s gold medal came after the victory against Natacha Rosa from Puerto Rico.
The fights took place in the city of Ponce, Puerto Rico, and ended the first two stages of the World Junior Circuit 2015. They come back to Rio de Janeiro, where they will join their junior fellows and senior members in the International Training Camp from Saquarema, starting from Tuesday, January 27th.
