Sixteen athletes will compete and train in the Czech Republic and Germany
As part of their training for the World Junior Championship organized between October 24th-27th in Ljubljana, capital of Slovenia, sixteen athletes invited by the coaching commission of the junior and cadet teams board this Wednesday, July 24th, to another International Tournament. It will be the fourth stage of a project which is the outcome of a partnership between the BJC and the Ministry of Sports. This project refers to athletes’ participation in competitions in Europe and after trainings. In this activity, the young talents of the Brazilian judo will participate in the European Cup from Liberec, the Czech Republic, and Berlin, Germany.
\"These are the last competitions in Europe for this age category and for European athletes who need to score points for the ranking of their Continental Championship. In this tournament the Brazilians judokas will find for sure their main opponents in the World Championships. After their great performance in the Pan and South- American championships, their participation in this event is one more opportunity to study, keeping the pace of competition and development of each of them. The medal in these events can be considered an indicator of a likely good result in the World Championship, \"said Kenji Saito, the Performance Director of Cadet and Junior Teams, who stated that the final list with the team convoked to the World Championship will be announced in late September.
The team will be composed of Tawany Silva (44kg), Gabriela Chibana (48kg), Jéssica Pereira (52kg), Flávia Gomes (57kg), Camila Barreto (57kg), Jéssica Santos (63kg), Samanta Soares (78kg), Sibilla Faccholli ( +78), Vitor Torrente (55kg), Nicolas Santos (60kg), José Vicente Souza (60kg), Ricardo Santos Júnior (66kg), Gabriel Mendes (73kg), Caio Brigida (73kg), Gustavo Assis (81kg) and Ruan Silva (+100 kg).
\"This tournament is extremely important. It\'s our last contact with our strongest opponents and a good moment to grip their kimono and see how we can put them on the mat, \"said the heavy weight athlete Ruan Silva.
The coaching committee will be composed of Marcelo Theotônio, head of the delegation; Douglas Vieira, coach, and Gustavo Braga, physiotherapist. The Brazilians compete in Liberec next weekend and train in the Czech Republic by August 1st, when they come to Berlin. They take part in the European Cup on August 3rd, 4th and then train until August 8th, when they come back to Brazil. As part of their preparation for the World Championship, a coaching training is expected to take place for two weeks in Japan, from September 6th to September 21st.
\"I think these trainings are fundamental for preparing for the World Championship. This is the only way we can get to know better our opponents and acquire more international experience to get in the competition one hundred percent prepared, \" said Flávia Gomes.
