The Brazilian Delegation Arrives in Brazil after a Record of Medals at the World Junior Championship
The Junior Judo Team comes back with seven medals: an outstanding Brazilian result for this age category
On Tuesday (29/10) the Brazilian delegation came back home, after spending the last ten days in Slovenia. They brought us an outstanding souvenir: seven medals from the World Junior Championship. The Brazilian team had won five podiums on two previous occasions: in Cali/98 with Tiago Camilo, Daniel Hernandez and Danielle Zangrando ; in Bangkok/08 when Sarah Menezes , Rafaela Silva and Mayra Aguiar were among the awarded athletes. In Ljubljana/2012, Vitor Torrente, Jessica Pereira, Gabriel Mendes, Henrique Silva, Samantha Soares, Sibilla Faccholli and Ruan Silva were the winners. The association with names from other campaigns is unavoidable.
“The athletes who got awards in the previous years were and still are very successful senior judokas. My result at the World Judo Championship made me be even more focused and determined to get my position on the senior podium. And getting in the senior national team is not an easy task; my work will triple because I\'m in the same category as Mayra and everyone knows that she is an outstanding athlete. “ said the awarded Samantha Soares (78kg , AD São Cateano / SP).
The result has been generated by one year – planning of the junior and cadet team. The World Judo Championship was one more competition in which the Brazilian Junior Team took part in 2013. The International Contests made the Brazilian juniors go around Europe facing the leading athletes of the continent, besides their Japanese counterparts. There were eight cities and various competitions, all of them followed by a training camp. Arlon (BEL), Paris (FRA), Coimbra (POR), Bremen (GER), St Petersburg (RUS), Lignano (ITA), Liberec (CZE) and Berlin (GER) hosted the four stages of the International Contests to which the Junior Judo Team took part. On the eve of the World Judo Championships, a trip to Japan - where they had been training in universities with traditional judo programs (Tsukuba and Teikyo) - and a final contest- to São José, SC - where the final adjustments were made, prepared the ground for the historical result.
“Congratulations to all of the BJC’s technical committee for their work and excellent result! I would like to congratulate all the athletes’ teachers for their work in their clubs,\" said the coach of the junior male team, Douglas Vieira.
