The Brazilian Cadet Team Board to Miami to Compete in the World Cadet Judo Championship

The Brazilian delegation boarded this Monday to Miami, the United States, where they will take part in the World Cadet Judo Championship from August the 8th to August the 11th. The ten athletes will be joined by the BJC’s Junior Performance Director, Kenji Saito, the technical assistant Edmilson Leite, the coaches Douglas Potrich and  Danusa Shira, the physiotherapist  Gabriela Zanotti, the nutritionist Patrícia Vieira and the psychologist Mariana Corrêa.

After the training period at the BJC’s headquarters, Juliana Rodrigues (40kg / ES); Thais Kondo (44kg / PR); Layana Colman (52kg / MS); Gabriela Bittencourt (57kg / SP); Aine Schmidt (70kg / SP); Ellen Furtado (+70 kg / SP); Kainan Pires (50kg / SP); Rodrigo Lopes (60kg / RJ), José Basile (73kg / SP) and Hugo Praxedes (+90 kg / SP) left to the south of the American State of Florida with high expectations.

\"My goal is the medal. I think we have been worked in the best possible conditions in the recent months, with the BJC’s support in organizing International Tournaments and training periods, and now we have no excuse if the result is different. The team is very strong and will get some medals, \"said the half lightweight athlete from Mato Grosso do Sul, Layana Colman.

The Brazilians that will be head-keys are the Pan American champions in Buenos Aires, such as Kainan Pires, Rodrigo Lopes, Hugo Praxedes, Juliana Rodrigues, Thais Kondo, Layana Colman, Gabriela Bittencourt and Ellen Furtado.

\"I\'m going there to get the gold. We are well prepared, with all the best at our disposal. Just look at how many physical trainers, psychologists, and nutritionists we’ve had ... We had everything we needed in this preparation and now we want to prove once again that this team is very strong, \"said the extra-lightweight Kainan Pires.

Shortly before their departure, the young athletes met the president of the Brazilian Judo Confederation, Paulo Wanderley Teixeira, who encouraged the Brazilian representatives.

\"This is a leveled category and that is why we cannot make any prediction about results. But our part has been done. We have implemented a project of international tournaments, competitions and training camps, in Brazil and abroad. So, our work is good enough. On the mat, we have a skilled team, however, I say it again, this is a category where several countries meet at the same level. The Cadets are more internationally leveled than the Seniors.\"

The criterion for the convocation was the national cadet and junior ranking, set in 2012, and recorded the scores of athletes from various competitions throughout the year, the same as the International Federation uses to convoke judokas to their most important competitions. They summoned athletes who took the first places in their respective categories and have reached the minimum mark of 120 points in the rankings, summing up them to the performances in the Brazilian Junior and Cadet Championship, the Brazilian Regional, the National Selection and International Tournaments.

The World Cadet Judo Championship will be held at Doral Legends Ballroom, from August the 8th to August the 11th.
