Taciana Lima Could Be the First Individual Medalist from Guinea-Bissau in the Lusophone Games
The Brazilian judoka naturalized Bissau-Guinean Taciana Lima will compete from January 18th in the third edition of the Lusophone Games. The competition, previously held in China - Macau -(2006) and Lisbon (2009), occurs now in the Goa City from India and it will last until the January 29th. There will be nine different sports divided into 64 events.
The athlete will become the country’s first individual medalist at the Games, in case she reaches the podium. The only time when Guinea-Bissau won a medal at this event was in 2006 thanks to their soccer team who competed in Macau. Brazil is the biggest winner, finishing in the first place of the overall medal ranking in both editions, scoring 62 gold medals, 42 silver, and 29 bronze ones.
Taciana is the only judoka from the African country which she started defending in 2012 , after meeting her biological father and discovering that he is natural from Guinea-Bissau. In 2013, she was the champion of the African Judo Championship as well as of the European Open in Lisbon and the African Open from Port Louis.
