Toronto 2015 Launches the Pan Torch
The object will arrive in 130 Canadian communities. The organization also released the names of the 10 people who would carry it.
The organizing committee of the Panamerican Games Toronto 2015 released on Tuesday, March 17th, the image of the torch which will be carried to 130 Canadian communities in 41 days tour spreading thus the spirit of the Games. The torch will travel more than 5000 km by land and fly 15,000 km, being carried by 60 different means of transport.
The object brings pictograms representing athletes in movement, celebrating the sport and culture, under the slogan "Together We Play".
"The torch is a unique symbol of the Pan American Games and carries the powerful energy that will bring Canadians together," said Saad Rafi, chief executive office of the Pan 2015.
The organization also released the names of 10 torch carriers: Pat Israel, Michael Crawford, Cameron Sault, Bob Cassels, Tanisha Martinez, Francis Atta, Melanie Byland, Zsofia Balazs, Denzel Innis and Simon Whitfield, triathlete who spoke about the meaning of carrying the greatest symbol of the Games.
"Carrying the torch is something powerful and patriot. I look forward to this time and it is an honor to represent my community and Canada," he said.
The torch will be displayed in one of the main attractions of Ontario, the CN Tower, on 20 March. The tour begins on May 30th and ends on July 10th at the Opening Ceremony of the Pan American Games.
