EJU Cancels the European Judo Championship 2015
A disagreement with the British Judo Association on the event’s sponsor was the cancellation reason.
The European Judo Union (EJU its acronym in English) announced on Saturday that the European Judo Championship 2015 edition was canceled. The event would take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from April 9th to 12th. According to the statement on its official website, the EJU considered "unacceptable" the sponsorship agreement between the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), regulator entity of MMA, and the Association of British Judo (ABJ, its acronym in English), the organizer of the event.
On Friday, the UFC, which would help in marketing and promotion of the championship, announced the withdrawal of sponsorship of the competition after the EJU threatened to cancel the event if the partnership continued. Still, the executive committee of the European Judo Union decided unanimously to cancel the event, considering that the partnership between UFC and BJA "does not represent the values of the EJU."
In addition, the entity also cited the BJA’s delay of payment of the license fee to organize the championship, which would represent its clauses break. EJU has not who will be the organizers of the competition that takes place in eight weeks.
