Larissa Farias and Ariel Alencar Are Champions in the United Kingdom
The judo competition began today in the UK Student Games and the Brazilian national anthem has already played twice
The Brazilian representatives began their competition in the UK Student Games, which are taking place in Sheffield, the third most populous city in England. The first on the mat was Larissa Farias (Judo Rocha/MS), in the up-to-48kg category. The U23 Brazilian champion started her first fight against Scotland’s Aimee Grant and won by ippon. Afterwards, only English opponents. Chloe Alves was defeated by two Shidos and, in the semifinal, Freya Harrild fell by ippon. In the decision, Larissa Alves faced Chloe again and she was the winner of the fight: ippon in 28 seconds, and gold medal.
\"I\'m very happy, because I have been achieved some excellent results, such as the Under 23 Brazilian title of the up-to-44 kg category, after recovering from an injury. I have worked hard not to let me down, \"said Larissa after her conquest.
In the afternoon, Ariel Alencar (AJ Harai Goshi / GO) began his journey in the 60kg category at Ice Sheffield Pad 2. The first fight was won by a yuko against the Scotish Kieran Ghelan. In the second fight, he had a victory over the English Daniel Powell by wazari; this qualified Ariel to the next stage when he faced another English judoka, Aaron Halles, in the semifinals and won by ippon. In the decision, another Scot challenging him, Neil Mcdonald, and his yuko brought another gold to Brazil.
Four other athletes will still defend the Brazilian colors in the UK. On the next two days, Erika Ferreira (63kg, Revarte /CE), Isadora Pereira (+70 kg Minas /MG), Luiz Nogueira Filho (73kg, SCI Madre Celeste / PA) and Guilherme Melo (+81 kg Minas / MG) step on the mat.
