Isadora Pereira and Guilherme Melo Are Gold Awarded; Erica Ferreira Wins the Silver Medal Whereas Luis Nogueira Filho Gets the Bronze in Sheffield
After two gold medals on Friday, won by Larissa Farias and Ariel Alencar, Brazil had four representatives in the second and final day of individual judo competition in the UK Student Games, held at the Ice Sheffield Pad, England. All the Brazilians who wore the kimono and went to the mat won a medal.
In the +70 kg category, Isadora Pereira (Minas Tenis Clube / MG) was superior to all her opponents and thus she became a champion; in the male heavy category, Guilherme Melo (Minas Tenis Clube / MG), came also to the podium and made the Brazilian anthem be played for the fourth time in the competition.
Erika Ferreira (Revarte / EC) reached the final in the 63kg category, where she lost, but won the silver medal. Luis Nogueira Filho (SCI Madre Celeste / PA) was defeated in one of the rounds, but he recovered and won the bronze award.
After participating in the individual event, scoring four gold, a silver and a bronze - and all representatives reaching the podium - the Brazilian athletes come back to the mats tomorrow to compete in the team competition at Sheffield Ice Pad 2.
