Fitness Skills Are Emphasized on the Third Day of the Junior Training Camp

While most of the athletes who participated in the largest Junior Training Camp ever organized in Brazil were leaving Campo Grande, the Brazilian top athletes, who will compete in Leibnitz, Austria, and judokas from Japan, France, Italy, Puerto Rico and the United States were sweating on the mat set in the Eco Pond Hotel. This Wednesday morning, May 21st, was dedicated to fitness, due to the fact that this competition will be very highly leveled, technically speaking.

"We took the opportunity to work on skills used in competitions as well as on the explosive stimulus similar to the fight one, ground movements, considering a timing similar to the combat one," said Armando Gonzalez, the Cuban coach responsible for the activities.

There were four groups of three exercises, each one taking 15 seconds. The break was three or four seconds between the inputs. The break between series was always incomplete: in the first exercises there was a minute and a half and in the second, 2 minutes.

"The fitness’ goal is to activate. We see how the time of the fight has changed. The referee declares mate and athletes are ready, he says hajime. So, the break of three or four seconds was to simulate it. The break between the inputs was to keep the pace in all sessions, “Gonzalez said.
