By Winning 13 Gold Medals out of 16 Possible Awards, the Brazilian Cadet Team Dominates the Panamerican Judo Championship

The young talents won also two silver and a bronze medal. On Monday the Junior fights will be held.

By Winning 13 Gold Medals out of 16 Possible Awards, the Brazilian Cadet Team Dominates the Panamerican Judo Championship

The Brazilian Cadet Team largely dominated the Pan American Cadet Championship held in San Jose, capital of Costa Rica. The young talents of the national judo won no less than 13 gold medals out of 16 possible ones and all athletes reached the podium. There were also two silver and a bronze medals. The distance to the second place in the medals chart held by Colombia was huge because the Colombians won two gold, three silver and five bronze medals. The last gold went to Venezuela. There were seven other countries participating in the competition.

"We are very pleased because we had 100% success. This is the main factor at work because we always want to compete for medals in any championship we take part in. Congratulations to the athletes, the BJC’s technical committee, the athletes’ coaches, clubs and everyone involved in the process, "said Marcelo Theotônio, the Manager of the Cadet and Junior Teams. President Paulo Wanderley Teixeira watched the fights on site and awarded several athletes.

The Brazil gold winners were the following: Mike Pinheiro (50kg / SP), Renan Torres (55kg / SP), Haniel Simas (60kg / SP), Luanh Rodrigues (73kg / PR), Igor Morishigue (81kg / SP), Luan Ferreira ( 90kg / MG), João Paulo Gonçalves (+ 90kg / SC), Jéssica Silva (44kg / SP), Gabriela Clemente (48kg / RS), Vitoria Andrade (57kg / MS), Samara Oliveira (63kg / ES), Pâmella Palma ( 70kg / SP) and Beatriz Souza (+ 70kg / SP).  The silver awards were given to Bianca Vilma Rosa (40kg / MS) and Francieli Terenzi (52kg / SP) whereas Jeferson Santos Junior (66kg / SP) took the bronze.

The coaching staff was composed of Marcelo Theotônio, the manager of the cadet and junior teams; the coaches Danusa Shira and Douglas Potrich; the physiotherapists Thiago Vinicius Ferreira and Luana Carvalho; and the coaching assistant Matheus Theotônio.

This was the last test for Cadet (Under 18) before the World Cadet Championships, which takes place between August 5th and August 10th in Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Pan-American Championship ends on Monday, July 20th, with the Junior fights (Under 21). The preliminaries start at 13h00, Brasília time zone.
