Bruno Watanabe and Joice Braga Are Gold Awarded at Gymnasíade 2013
Russia dominates the judo competition with ten golds, followed by France with four
Bruno Watanabe (extra-lightweight/50kg) and Joice Braga (half-middleweight/ 57kg) have been quite successful lately. The two athletes who were champions of their categories in the National Cadet Selection held last weekend, won a title again on Tuesday, this time at Gymnasíade, the World School Games. The judo tournament took place on the last day of the event’s competitions hosted in Brasilia.
Besides the two golds , the young Brazilian judokas conquered seven silvers and six bronzes, leading the competition considering the number of medals. Russia took the first place in the medals table with ten golds and 13 total medals, followed by France with four golds and 10 total awards. Gymnasíade gathered about a seventeen hundred athletes aged 14 to 18; they came from 35 countries in order to compete in eight different sports - chess, swimming, athletics, karate, rhythmic gymnastics, artistic gymnastics, judo and aerobics. Also known as World School Games, the competition had never been held on the American continent before. The first edition of the event occurred in 1979 in Wiesbaden/Germany.
The Organizing Committee of the event prepared a big party at the Closing Ceremony, held at the Ulysses Guimarães Convention Center. There will be a Street Dance presentation, choreographed by Wesley Messiah, the main attraction of the Gymnasiade 2013 Closing. There will be as well a technological presentation showing clips of the best moments of the game and the DJ \"A\" sound.
