Brazilian Youngsters in Paris to face heavy practice

The Junior Brazilian Judo Team boarded on Sunday night ( 2/2 ) to fulfill one of the most important stages of the Coaching Committee’s planning: the training in Paris. There will be training sessions, held between Monday morning (February 3rd), right on the athletes’ arrival, and Friday (February 7th) in Paris. They will be followed by after- Grand Slam activities, held between February 10th and 13th when they share the mats from the renowned Olympic Center INSEP with their senior counterparts who will take part in the competition, including the Brazilian ones.

\"I am sure that our team’s work which started in Pindamonhagaba last week will bring good results. We will keep on working and the outcome will depend as well on the interaction between the BJC’s Coaching Committee and the athletes’ clubs’. I believe that this moment is an important milestone in the development of junior teams \", analyzed the Performance Director of the Junior and Cadet Team of the Brazilian Judo Confederation, Kenji Saito.

There will be 20 athletes composing the delegation led by five other members: the Head of Delegation, Kenji Saito; the coaches Douglas Vieira and Andrea Berti; the physiotherapists Gabriela Zanotti and Gustavo Braga. Two members, Flavia Gomes (57kg) and Jessica Pereira (52kg), will train hard for the Grand Slam, where they will compete as part of the senior team. Larissa Farias (44kg , MS) , Tawany Silva (48kg , SP) , Layana Colman (52kg , MS) , Tamires Crude (57kg , RJ) , Danielle Oliveira (63kg , RJ) , Ello Anny Santos (70kg , SP) , Isadora Pereira (78kg , MG) , Sibilla Faccholli (+78 kg , SP) , Vitor Hugo Carvalho (60kg , SP) , Vitor Torrente (60kg , SP) , Ricardo Santos Junior (66kg , MG) , Thelma Martelotta Gomes (66kg , SP), Caio Brigida (73kg , SP) , Lincoln Neves (73kg , SP) , Rafael Macedo (81kg , RS) , Gabriel Oliveira (90kg , SP) , Gabriel Gouveia (100kg , SP) and João Cesarino (+100 kg , SP) form up the team.

\"The trip was a bit tiring, but we are here now and we have to think about the opportunity these trainings represent. I am happy to be part of this group \"said the heavyweight João Cesarino.

The training will be held at INSEP (the National Institute of Sport and Physical Education, in the French acronym), which is an Olympic center considered a reference worldwide. To get a better idea about it, a third of the French delegation at the Olympics in Athens 2004 and Beijing in 2008 were training at INSEP. Out of the 41 medals France won in the Games from China, 21 were won by athletes who trained there. In London 2012, there were 19 out of 34 medals. This is an example of how a good structure can contribute to reach the podium, and the structure of INSEP is one.
