Brazilian Representatives in the Youth Games, Layana Colman and José Basile, Are Training in Japan
The judokas Layana Colman and José Basile, who will represent Brazil in the Youth Olympic Games from Nanjing, will experience the training on the mats of judo’s birthplace. Together with 40 other athletes from six sports (fencing, gymnastics, handball, weight lifting, associated wrestling and beach volleyball) take part in acclimation sessions in Japan, held from August 06th to August 12th, in order to get adapted to the Asian climate and time zone.
"This acclimation period is extremely important in many aspects for these young athletes. We are absolutely sure that these days will be very fruitful regarding the training and interaction. Our goal, in addition to the technical training, is offering these new talents the best conditions so that they have the best performance and make the most of this first Olympic participation of their careers, "said Adriana Behar, the head of the Brazilian delegation from Nanjing.
Athletes will stay in the same place where they are training, the Ajinomoto Training Center of the Japanese Olympic Committee, one of the most modern and equipped worldwide. It is also the same place where the Brazilian National Judo Team stayed this year for workouts.
In 2010, in the first edition of the Youth Olympic Games held in Singapore, BOC also organized an acclimatization period. At that time, Dubai, from the United Arab Emirates, was the place chosen to train. "We are repeating the positive experience of Dubai in 2010. It is essential to gather most part of the delegation in the same place so that they can get used to the time zone and go to Nanjing in optimal conditions. Moreover, it will be an important opportunity to integrate the members of Time Brasil and teach the athletes the values that this competition wants to spread “Adriana Behar said.
The Seminar - Before boarding for acclimatization, the 97 athletes who will represent Brazil in Nanjing will meet on August 2nd, 3rd and 4th at a hotel in Sao Paulo for a preparatory workshop for the Youth Olympic Games, held between August 16th and 28th. The event will hold several lectures and activities, in which all details of the competition will be presented, besides logistics and services offered by the BOC.
