Brazil Wins Three Medals in Berlin, a Stage of the World Junior Circuit

Larissa Farias (44kg) won silver while Vitor Torrente (60kg) and Rita Reis (44kg) were bronze awarded.

The Brazilian junior team won three medals on the first day of Berlin, a stage of the World Junior Circuit. The women extra-lightweight made double with Larissa Farias winning the silver and Rita Reis taking the bronze. The third medal came from the male team with Vitor Torrente (60kg) who reached the third place of the German podium.

In her second consecutive final at the World Tour, Larissa Farias was defeated by the ippon applied by the Dutch Amber Gersjes. Before reaching the decision, the Brazilian defeated the Russian Kristina Bulgakova and Sitora Boymatova by making the opponnents get three and two penalties respectively.

In the same category, Rita Reis started well with a yuko against Sandrine Metier (GER) and a wazari against the Turkish Melisa Cakmakli. In the semifinal, the Brazilian was defeated by the Dutch who would become champion and defeated another German, Jana Schmitz also by yuko in the bronze decision.

It took six fights to Vitor Torrente to win his bronze. By applying wazaris and an ippon, the Brazilian overcame Tim Banen (NED), Paul Schwissow (GER), Alin Albu (ROU), but in the end he was defeated himself by just a shido against the South Korean Kim Channyeong in the semifinal. Scoring again with a wazari, Torrente defeated Peter Miles (GBR) and took the bronze.

Jessica Lima (52kg), Lucas Guimarães (55kg) and Daniel Cargnin (66kg) also came to claim the bronze medal, but ended up in the fifth place. Kamilla Silva (57kg) went to repechage and was seventh. Igor Thuin (55kg), Jonathan Freitas (55kg) and Layana Colman (57kg) also fought on Saturday but did not reach the fights for medal.

The competition continues on Sunday with the fights in the half-middleweight, middleweight, half-heavyweight and heavyweight categories with Brazilians in action.
