Tiago Camilo Is Included in the Forest of Fame from the Olympic Center in São Paulo
The twice Olympic awarded judoka was paid tribute, together with Ze Roberto Guimaraes, the coach of the women's volleyball team, as well as with the Paralympic swimmer Joon Sok Seo.
One of the biggest names of the Brazilian judo’s history, Tiago Camilo, winner of a silver medal at Sydney Games 2000 and of a bronze one at Beijing 2008, was paid tribute last Monday, December 11th, in São Paulo. Together with the coach of the women's volleyball team, Ze Roberto Guimaraes, and with the Paralympic swimmer Joon Sok Seo, he planted his tree in the Forest of Fame from the Olympic Center, created to pay tribute to high yield participants .
"Let this plant represent the birth of new generations of athletes,” stated the "King of Ippon". Among the athletes already paid tribute is the Olympic champion in Barcelona 1992, Rogério Sampaio.
Located in the Bikes’ Park, the Forest of Fame is an initiative of the Municipal Bureau of Sports, Leisure and Recreation of São Paulo in partnership with the Panathlon Club. Each tree, identified by a sign, is dedicated to an athlete. Names like Maureen Maggi (athletics), Emerson Fittipaldi (motor racing), Maria Esther Bueno (tennis) and Marcelo Negrão (volleyball) have been honored, among others.
"The athletes deserve it. It is important that we recognize the athletes who defended Brazil and did their best so that our country be an active player in different sports, "said Celso Jatene, the municipal secretary of sports, leisure and recreation.
Henrique Nicolini, a member of Panathlon Club and blogger of Gazeta Esportiva.net, is the creator of the Forest of Fame. Joined by Nadia Campeão, vice-mayor of São Paulo, Celso Jatene handed a commemorative plaque to the senior journalist.
