The Brazilian Judo Legend, Chiaki Ishii, Is the Character of a Documentary
Chiaki Ishii’s story of overcoming and courage for being the first Brazilian judoka to win a medal in the Olympics is the theme of a documentary. "The Brazilian Samurai - Chiaki Ishii’s Story" will be composed of testimonials given by the Professor himself, his friends, relatives and athletes. Videos of that time, photos from his personal collection and released by the media and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will illustrate all the Master’s steps.
The Japanese naturalized Brazilian, Chiaki Ishii, is the grandson of one of the disciples of Jigoro Kano, the creator of this sport in 1882. He arrived in Brazil in 1964, after spending 60 days on board with 300 other Japanese, who, just like him, had fled Japan. Ishii, now 72 years old and graduated the 9th Dan, entered the sport's history after winning the bronze medal at the Olympics of Munich in 1972.
