Free Exhibition on the Olympic Games Is Promoted in Rio de Janeiro

One of kimonos worn by Sarah Menezes, the first judo Olympic champion, is one of the attractions of the exhibition \" Olympic Games : Sports, Culture and Art \" , organized by the Brazilian Olympic Committee (BOC) ,which arrives this Friday, September 13th, at the National History Museum, downtown Rio. Besides the \" braided armor \" of the judoka from Piauí, the public can see for free other pieces from the collection of the Olympic Museum in Lausanne such as the boxing gloves of the American Sugar Ray Leonard (Olympic champion in Montreal/1976) , the uniform of the Swiss tennis man Roger Federer ( winner in Pequim/2008 ) , the sneakers of the Brazilian Adhemar Ferreira da Silva ( gold medal in the triple jump in Helsinki/1952 and in Melbourne/1956 ). One of the greatest rarities is a draft of Pierre de Coubertin (founder of the modern era’s Olympic Games) on the creation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the Sorbonne University from Paris. There will be around 300 items exhibited.

\"It\'s a collection totally different of what people expect: all Olympic torches, medals, mascots and sports equipment for all sports that compose the program,\" said the cultural director of the BOC, Christiane Paquelet, saying that the exhibition has been promoted before in São Paulo. The exhibition will go from Rio to Brasilia.

The exhibition is divided into nine modules: Games from the Old Age; Coubertin’s Dream; Lighting the Torch; Ceremonies, Sports and Medals; Pets; Rio/2016; Memorabilia, and Brazil Time. According to Christiane Paquelet, in the “Rio/2016” Area, the audience will interact on the “touch screen “with the project of the city’s Olympic Games.

\"People will also have the opportunity to take pictures with the Games logo, which is a sculpture for the first time,\" said BOC’s cultural the director.

In São Paulo, 25,000 people saw the exhibition, set in the FIESP Building. The BOC hopes to overcome this audience in Rio. The exhibition, which opens this Friday (13/9), will be in the National History Museum ( Praça Marechal Anchor - Close to Praça XV - Centro - Rio de Janeiro ) until December 1st . The opening time is from Tuesday to Friday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The admission is free.
