Chiaki Ishii, the First Brazilian Olympic Judo Medalist, Is Paid Tribute in São Paulo
The ceremony was held last Tuesday and was attended by fourteen judokas who reached the podium in the Olympics.
The ceremony paying tribute to Professor Chiaki Ishii, the first Olympic medal-awarded judoka from Brazil, was held on Tuesday evening at SESC Bom Retiro , São Paulo. Ishii received distinguished guests such as the Olympic medalists Tiago Camilo, Leandro Guilheiro, Sarah Menezes, Carlos Honorato, Rogério Sampaio, Felipe Kitadai, Mayra Aguiar, Douglas Vieira, Walter Carmona, Luis Onmura, Henrique Guimaraes, Rafael Silva and Flávio Canto and the four-time Paralympian Antonio Tenorio. The BJC’s vice-president, Francisco de Carvalho Filho, the FPJ’s President, Alessandro Puglia, and the professors Massao Shinohara and Edgard Ozon, both ninthDan, attended the event as well. The only absent guests were the Olympic champion Aurélio Miguel who could not go due to his father’s death the night before the event and Ketleyn Quadros, the first judoka to win an Olympic medal, who was competing with the National Judo Team.
The ceremony began with the Olympic medalists and other authorities. Professor Ishii was given a picture and a commemorative plaque by the BJC’s vice - president, Francisco de Carvalho Filho. Mrs. Keiko, Mr. Ishii’s wife, and his daughter Vanya gave some flowers to the honoree. Then, he was presented a video with pictures and another one of a presentation held by Professor Ishii in 2010, in which he received his ninth dan black belt.
After that, there was a unique presentation of Shodo, Japanese writing, and of kime -no- kata , a judo presentation with some strokes simulating \"slow motion\" and in the end, a presentation of taiko.
The tribute will go on during the week with the Experiences of Judo in the gymnasium SESC Bom Retiro , and will end on Saturday ( September 28th ) with the Festival of Judo Chiaki Ishii.
