With Special Structure, the National Team Start the Sports Training Sessions for Toronto 2015
The team arrived in Mangaratiba on Tuesday, 23rd, for a ten-day period of preparation.
The Brazilian National Judo Team went on Tuesday, 23rd, to Mangaratiba for intensive training sessions aiming the Pan American Games in Toronto 2015, which take place in July. During this period, the 14 judokas who were called will be training each day at the customized premises built at the hotel with the support of the Olympic Committee of Brazil and the Ministry of Sports.
The accuracy of details has a special reason. Silver winner at the Pan American Games in Rio 2007, the former judoka Daniela Polzin is now one of the architects of BOC and she was responsible for the project adaptation of the hotel facilities to receive the judo team. A job that will be a legacy for 2016, since the place will host again the training sessions held by the Brazilian judo team in order to get ready for the Olympics.
She says that the main part of the project is precisely the heart of the structure: the dojo, where the athletes will spend most of their time. And there is one new thing. The mat is designed with a cushioned platform that ensures comfort and helps the athlete's performance during training.
"I was an athlete and I know that makes a difference. In this preparation stage, falling is not the most pleasant thing. With the damping, it avoids the athlete suffer micro injuries during the falls that use to happen when you have the mat directly on the floor. "she says.
Polzin also says that the biggest challenge of the project was the organization of the assembly, from bringing the materials from Maria Lenk where they were stored until the hotel in Mangaratiba. The work was completed in four days with daily uninterrupted shifts from 7am to 22pm.
Specific training
Taking advantage of this high class structure, the technical committee of the judo team outlined a specific plan for the Pan with individual strategies targeting the Brazilian athletes’ main opponents.
"We are doing studies on each outstanding athlete from the Panamerica. There are categories such as the women’s middleweight and half-heavyweight with very strong athletes such as Kelita Zupancic (CAN), Yuri Alvear (COL), Kayla Harrison (USA) and now is the time to focus on these main opponents, “Ney Wilson, Performance Director of BJC, stated. ”Besides, when the athlete comes in this type of training sessions such as the one we have now, he/she can think only of the competition, since it is outside the home environment and he/she does not have to deal with the daily problems that can interfere in their preparation. These are our objectives in this final stage. "
Brazil boards on July 2nd for Canada. The team will stay at the University of York in York. From July 9th the athletes will be gradually going to Toronto, where the competitions take place.
