Training Standardization and the Number of Athletes Make the Difference of Saquarema

On Tuesday, January 27th, the Brazilian Junior and Senior Judo Teams will take part in the largest training camp in Saquarema, where they will spend ten days doing various activities together with athletes from more than 10 countries. Some Brazilian judokas will take part in the second training of the year, considering that some of them traveled to Austria earlier this month. The training organized by the Brazilian Judo Confederation, however, has some peculiarities that make it be different from other training, as Ney Wilson, Performance Director of CBJ, stated:  "The basic difference of this training from the foreign ones is that here  we can come with a greater number of athletes. We can also have a greater integration and standardization training with clubs, as some coaches and other professionals (physiotherapists, trainers) from clubs can also participate in the activity."

This year, besides the coaches of the Brazilian Team, namely Luiz Shinohara, Mario Tsutsui, Mario Sabino, Fulvio Miyata, Rosicleia Campos, Daniele Zangrando and Yuko Fujii, there will also be those who help athletes train in their clubs. Names such as  Floriano Almeida from  Minas Tennis Club, Antonio Carlos Pereira, Kiko from Sogipa, responsible for athletes as Erika Miranda, Ketleyn Quadros, Mayra Aguiar, among others can be stated here. In BJC’s opinion, this represents a higher integration between clubs and National Team, the main axes in the athlete's preparation.

Another point highlighted by Ney Wilson is the exchange with foreign high-level judokas from all over the world. It’s time we observed and exchanged ideas in search of innovation and evolution of the Brazilian judo. In this sense, it is worth mentioning the presence of some of the main opponents of Brazilians in competitions and many others at the top of the world rankings.

"This training is a very strong observation activity. Considering Rafaela Silva’s category, for example, there are the five best world athletes here. We also have more coaches observing and guiding our athletes," Ney said.

Saquarema International Training Camp will be attended by 61 athletes from the senior selection and 24 junior judokas, in addition to the invited athletes. There are expected about 200 judokas training from January 27th to February 5th.
