Tiago Camilo Will Not Compete Anymore in the World Judo Championship of Rio de Janeiro
Champion in 2007, during the last World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Tiago Camilo will not compete anymore in this World’s edition. The judoka of the middleweight category (90kg) suffered a dislocation of the right shoulder during his training on Monday (19/8) and will be replaced by Eduardo Santos in the individual competition. Eduardo Bettoni was invited to join the team in the team competition.
\"It is a major embezzlement. Tiago is a strong judoka, world champion and twice Olympic medalist. Unfortunately athletes face these problems and we are providing now all medical care so that he can recover as soon as possible, “said the Performance Director of the Brazilian Judo Confederation, Ney Wilson.
\"I am very sad because I got injured on the Championship’s eve, which was going to be at home, a very special place for reviving the victory from 2007. But my main goal are the 2016 Games, also in Rio de Janeiro, and I\'ll recover and train for this dream. I would like to thank everybody for their support, \"said Tiago Camilo.
You can find below the BJC’s official medical bulletin, signed by the chief doctor of the Brazilian team, Dr. Schor Breno.
\"The athlete Tiago Camilo suffered today (Monday, 19/8), during his training in judo, a dislocation of his right shoulder and cannot participate in the World Judo Championship Rio 2013 from next week.
Tiago was recovering from an injury suffered during the World Master Championships in Russia, on May 26th, 2013, where he had dislocated his right shoulder. He was treated for recovery from his ligament injury, initially with intensive physiotherapy and then with strengthening exercises and judo training three weeks ago.
Today, with the new trauma and the second episode of dislocation of his right shoulder, the athlete is not able to fight. Tiago will do a new MRI analysis and subsequently undergo surgical treatment, which must occur after the analysis evaluation.\"
