The Rio Grand Slam is worth points for the 2012 London Games

The Rio Grand Slam will be the first event of its category that will be worth points for the ranking that will qualify for the 2012 London Olympic Games. The qualifying “window” opened on April 30 and will define the 22 men and 14 women who will be at the Games in two years time.

The Grand Slam in Rio will be held at the Maracanãzinho Gymnasium during the 22nd and 23rd of May. The gold medal is worth 300 points, the silver 180 and the bronze 120. Around 320 judokas from 28 countries are expected to take part in the event.
