The National Judo Team Attends a Lecture Given by Mizuno Regarding the New Rules of the Judogis

A representative of the Japanese company explained some details concerning the new kimono.

The athletes of the Brazilian team gathered in Saquarema for the International Training Camp received on Wednesday some guidance on the new kimono produced by Mizuno, already adapted to the new rules of the IJF. The Japanese company was represented by Mr Fujico Keitoku, who took the measurements of the athletes on Tuesday, and Akihiro Oikawa, responsible for giving the lecture on Wednesday.

A key change concerns the IJF label color that in the new version, went from blue to red. From April 2015 judogis with blue labels will be no longer allowed in international competitions. The label of the belt can be blue or red.

"The new belt also has changes. It is more flexible and more difficult to untie, " Oikawa said. "The new kimono developed by Mizuno is thinner and lighter without losing strength. This is because we added 20% polyester in the composition of the tissue that used to be 100% cotton. The collar also has changes, it is 5mm narrower."

Apart from explaining these new features, the representatives of the Japanese company also gave some guidelines on the main care of the judogi. It should always be washed separately from the rest of the common clothes, cannot be dried in the dryer nor under the sun and cannot be used chlorine or softener. Moreover, the judogui must be washed in water at about 30 ° C and it has dry in the shade.

Another point raised by the technical committee of Brazil was the competitive durability of the blue judogi, which is wearing faster than the white one. According to Oikawa, this flaw has been corrected and the new blue kimonos will be much more resistant and will not untie so easily.
