The Largest International Training Camp Held in Brazil Comes to an End
The last delegations left Brazil on Saturday, February 7th. The next appointment of the Brazilian team is the Grand Prix of Dusseldorf.
The largest International Training Camp ever held in Brazil attended by over 300 athletes from 13 different countries came to an end last Saturday February 7th. For 10 days, Brazilian top athletes from senior, junior and cadet categories have had the opportunity to train together with big world judo names such as Kayla Harrison, Marti Malloy, Audrey Tcheumeo, Clarisse Agbegnenou, Gevrise Emane, Kim Polling, Yarden Gerbi , Marren Kraeh and Miryam Roper; and Teddy Riner, Loic Pietri, Travis Stevens, Dex Elmont, Sven Maresch and Karl-Richard Frey.
Apart from the international legends, 10 Olympic medals in Brazil were gathered in the Volleyball Development Centre. At the final meeting, the Performance Director of the Brazilian Judo Confederation, Ney Wilson, made sure to put the eight Olympic medalists in a prominent position to motivate the younger ones.
"It is important that the new talents that are here do not consider winning an Olympic medal or taking part in a World as something far from their reality. We showed them that those who have already made history for the Brazilian judo are common people and they sweat when training as much as them, "he said. Among the athletes there were Leandro Guilheiro and Tiago Camilo, with two medals, Ketleyn Quadros, Mayra Aguiar, Felipe Kitadai, Rafael Silva and Sarah Menezes. The list is complete with the coach of the junior men’s team, Douglas Vieira, silver medalist in Los Angeles 1984.
The delegations left one after another. On Wednesday, the women's team from Germany went home. The next day, it was the turn of the men's team from the United States, Ireland, Austria, Slovenia, Portugal and Lebanon. On Friday, Holland and Israel left. France, Italy and Japan stayed until the last day as well as all Brazilians. The training sessions were tough (two periods of two hours per day) and technically high-leveled. For the Brazilian judo, the TC was a milestone.
"We have never had a pre-season beforein the Brazilian judo, so to speak. We started the year competing in the Grand Slam of Paris after only a week of preparation. With the calendar change (GS Paris will now be held in September), it results that the Training Camp has become extremely important for the results throughout the year, "said Luiz Shinohara, the coach of the men's team.
"I would like to highlight the commitment of all Brazilian athletes who have been here. Even the younger ones who felt a little more the training intensity in the beginning, got together and gave their best. The clubs’ attendance made the training even a more important event. I think all of those who came here got benefited. "analyzed Rosicleia Campos, the coach of the women's team.
