The Brazilian National Judo Team Arrives in Russia for the 2014 Chelyabinsk World Judo Championship
Last Wednesday, August 20th, it was the last training of the Brazilian Judo Team on French soil. The team composed of 18 athletes, nine men and nine women, has stayed in Paris since August 14th for the acclimation stage before Chelyabinsk 2014 World Judo Championship, which will be held from August 25th to August 31st . Early this Friday, the delegation arrived in Russia, where they will be staying until September 2nd, the day they board home.
The six days of acclimatization in which two heavy athletes, Ruan Isquierdo and Tainã Nery, also took part, sought to provide the athletes the necessary final support before going into action. The period also enabled judokas to get used to the time zone, climate and be a team in order to to walk together towards the same goal: their success in the World Judo Championship.
The first Brazilian woman to win a medal in individual sports in Olympics, Ketleyn Quadros (57kg) participates for the third time in a world competition and she is still seeking a place on the podium in her category. With a lot of experience, the athlete from Minas Tennis Club has no doubt about the advantages that the training period provides to the team.
"The acclimatization stage is essential to keep us focused only on the competition, because it is when we are not concerned with anything else and we get used to food, climate and time zone " Ketlyen Quadros said.
Felipe Kitadai (60kg), bronze medalist at the Olympic Games in 2012, agrees with her teammate. "We set the final details and it was good to get used to the climate and to the time zone, which are quite different from Brazil," said the athlete from Sogipa who will participate for the fourth time in the tournament.
The green and yellow colors will be represented by Felipe Kitadai (60kg), Eric Takabatake (60kg) and Sarah Menezes (48kg) fighting on the 25th; Charles Chibana (66kg) and Erika Miranda compete on the second day of the World Judo Championship; Alex Pombo (73kg), Rafaela Silva (57kg) and Ketleyn Quadros (57kg) rise to the mat on the 27th; Victor Penalber (81kg) and Mariana Silva (63kg) fight on the 28th; Tiago Camilo (90kg), Barbara Timo (70kg) and Mayra Aguiar (78kg) come into action on the 29th; and on the last day of the World Individual Championship, Luciano Correa (100kg), Rafael Silva (100kg +), David Moura (100kg +), Maria Suelen Altheman (78kg +) and Rochele Nunes (78kg +) step on the mat.
The technical committee is formed by Ney Wilson, Performance Director and head of the delegation; the coaches Rosicleia Campos, Mário Tsutsui and Luiz Shinohara; the doctors Rodrigo Rodarte and Mateus Saito; the physiotherapists Thiago Takara and Priscila Marques; the psychologist Luciana Castelo Branco; the nutritionist Roberta Lima; the fitness trainer Josué Moraes; the strategist Leonardo Maturana, as well as the office assistant Bernardo Seabra and the press advisor Valter França.
