The Brazilian Judo Delegation Is among the First Ones Arriving in Toronto
The team landed on Friday morning, July 3rd, in Canada, along with the water polo team.
The 45 members of the Brazilian Judo Delegation landed at Toronto airport on Friday morning, July 3rd, and they were the first to arrive at the York University premises prepared by the Olympic Committee of Brazil. There they will adjust the final details and acclimatize for the Pan American Games, that is for the competitions starting from July 11th. Apart from judokas, the other athletes training at York will be the members of the athletics, basketball, wrestling and tennis teams. The place will also host the athletics and tennis competitions.
"We find very important being able to focus on our outcome some days before the competition itself. Thus we can get away from all the celebration mood proper of such an important event as well as from our opponents, who will be staying at the Pan American Village. In addition, we have here in York a structure set up with absolutely everything we need to enjoy a great training, "said the world light heavyweight champion (78kg), Mayra Aguiar, who won a Pan American silver and a bronze.
Apart from the 14 athletes who will compete – seven women and seven men - the Brazilian team from Toronto has also among its members a spare athlete for each weight that will help the main ones in their training.
"Here we have total privacy for training and we can easily chose our training time," said Edgar Hubner, the BOC’s general manager of Youth and Infrastructure, responsible for the on site operation. "We can also use sparring athletes for fights and judo, which would not have been possible if these athletes had stayed at the Village," he added.
