Suelen Altheman Is Back on Mats after Recovering from a Surgery on Her Right Knee

The warrior is back on mats. But she is not 100% yet. Maria Suelen Altheman was allowed to resume training this week after recovering from a surgery on her right knee underwent in October. The surgery was performed by the specialist Dr. Caio D'Elia, from the Vita Institute, under the supervision of Dr. Breno Schor, the doctor of BJC. The vice- leader of the world ranking among heavyweight judokas  got injured at the end of the World Championship from Chelyabink 2014 while she was fighting against the Cuban Idalys Ortiz, on 30th August.

Totally dedicated to her physical therapy from the last months – she used to have two daily sessions with the physiotherapist of the Brazilian team Priscila Marques - the world vice-champion in 2013 and 2014 started to train again. For the time being, she is able to perform only uchi-komi, repetitive movements for input or preparation of blows.

"Putting again the kimono on and stepping on the mat for new practice was the best feeling I have had after surgery. I was very happy and excited to be back doing what I like," said the athlete, who due to her physical strength, earned the nickname Sussu "Riner". "I'm still a little insecure, but this is normal. Every move I make with no pain is a victory for me."

Suelen’s goal is to prepare well for the forthcoming World Judo Championships, to be held between 24th and 30th August in Astana, Kazakhstan.
