Six Judokas Are in Contention for the Best Athlete Award of a Sports Magazine
Sarah Menezes, Mayra Aguiar, Maria Suelen Altheman, Rafael Silva and Victor Penalber are among the athletes nominated by Sportslife Magazine for the Year’s Judoka Award. The first four athletes have just won a medal in the World Judo Championships which ended last week. Victor reached the podium in all competitions he has been taking part in since the London Games, but in Moscow GS and the World Championship. Penalber is still in contention for the best athlete of the year, considering the results from September 2012 and September 2013. His counterparts are Alexandra Nascimento (Handball), Cesar Cielo (Swimming), Adriano de Souza \"Mineirinho\" (Surf) and Arthur Zanetti (Artistic Gymnastics).
In the Revelation Category, Nathalia Brigida, only 20 years old, won this year the gold in the Panamerican Open from Buenos Aires and the silver in the Grand Prix of Miami and in the Panamerican Open of Montevideo as a senior; she is the champion of the European Cup of St. Petersburg and vice-champion of the Pan American Junior Championship. She competes against Miguel Dixini (Cycling BMX), Arthur Nory (Artistic Gymnastics), Hiago Gama (Jiu-Jitsu) and Augusto Dutra (Athletics).
