Rochelle Nunes Is the Best Brazilian on the Last Day of Grand Slam of Tyumen
The Brazilian heavyweight athlete was placed seventh. Leandro Guilheiro, Eduardo Bettoni, Rafael Buzacarini and Samanta Soares did not reach the finals.
Brazil closed its participation in the Grand Slam of Tyumen on Sunday morning, July 19th, winning the seventh place with Rochelle Nunes (+78kg). The Brazilian came to repechage, in which she was defeated by Jasmin Kuelbs (GER) and she could not fight for bronze. Eduardo Bettoni (90kg) stopped in the second round, while Leandro Guilheiro (81kg), Rafael Buzacarini (100kg) and Samanta Soares (78kg) did not win the first fight.
Rochelle started well with a win thanks to a yuko against Sarah Adlington (GBR) and advanced to the quarterfinals against the Chinese Song Yu. The Brazilian managed to perform a yuko, but the opponent scored also a yuko and a wazari and won the round. In repechage, the German opponent got a wazari and went to the bronze contention.
Eduardo Bettoni performed an ippon against the French Ludovic Gobert and faced Aaron Hildebrand (GER) in the second round. The fight was still tied by penalties- two for each athlete - when the German performed a wazari in the last second and won the match.
The Olympic medalist Leandro Guilheiro was overcome by the Belarusian Aliaksandr Stsiashenka, by ippon in the first fight and left the competition early. Guilhero’s performance was similar to Rafael Buzacarini’s, who also lost by ippon to Mskhaladze Aleksandr (GEO) and Samantha Soares’s, defeated by Marta Tort Merino (ESP) by the maximum score.
Brazil’s next appointment will be the World Championship Astana 2015 in August in Kazakhstan. Among the members who competed in Tyumen, just Rochelle Nunes was called to participate in this competition. The team will meet on August 12th in Rio de Janeiro in order to board for acclimatization in France.
