Rochele Wins Her Second Medal and David Moura Takes the Bronze
Two more medals on Wednesday and the Brazilian Judo sums five in Universiade
Brazil won two more medals on Wednesday, the last day of individual competitions in the Universiade. One of them had a special feeling: Rochele Nunes got to the final fight of the Absolute category and won the silver. It is the second medal of this athlete at Universiade; on Sunday, she had won the title in the +100 kg category.
\"It\'s amazing to win two medals in such a high level competition as the Universiade. I worked for one more gold, but it was silver coming,\" the medalist said.
Rochelle got to the ending fight after applying three ippons on her \"victims\": Kassiratou Ayekemi Igue (BEN), Clarissa Gabriele Taube (GER) and Manami Inoue (JAP). In the final, she met again the leader of the World Ranking, Idalys Ortiz, who defeated the Brazilian this time. The Brazilian was defeated by four Shidos, which means Hansoku Make and the opponent’s victory by Ippon.
\"It is not exactly what I wanted, but I\'m very happy with the performance. I hope to win another medal tomorrow,\" stated Rochelle, referring to competition by teams from next Thursday.
Another medalist was David Moura, who came to fight for medals in the Absolute category via repechage. David was defeated in the first fight by the Czech Lukas Krpalek by Ippon. However, the athlete pulled himself and defeated the French Jean Sebastien Bonvoisin for having fewer penalties as well as the Polish Maciej Sarnacki by Ippon and the Hungarian Barna Bor by Ippon. In the fight for medal, he defeated his opponent, this time the Uzbek Sherali Juraev, with his back to the mat.
\"It was a very hard competition for sure. Being able to recover and overcome such strong opponents enhances my confidence for the next challenges. I am sure that I\'m working in the right direction. I am greatly confident in it,\" David said.
The other Brazilian athletes who were on the mats on Wednesday did not reach the fights for medals. Catiere Moya (48kg) won the first fight against the Chinese Han As, where the two applied a Wazari, but the Chinese had one more punishment than the Brazilian. In the next fight, however, the Brazilian was applied an Ippon by the North Korean Rin Song Sim, that did not advance in the competition. Phelipe Pelim began applying Ippon on the Slovakian Marek Pentka, but after defeating Huang Sheng-Ting from Taipei, he was defeated by the Japanese Shinji Kido for having more punishments. In the repechage, Phelipe was not lucky in the fight against the Kazakh Ibrayev Rustam who won by a Wazari.
With two more medals, the Brazilian judo sums five in Universiade - two gold, one silver and two bronze. On Thursday, the competition by teams end the Games.
