Olympic Champions from Brazil watch the World Cup
Icons of the Brazilian judo, Olympic champions such as Aurélio Miguel (Seul 88) and Rogério Sampaio (Barcelo 92) are at the Hebraica Sports Club to watch the São Paulo World Cup.

City councilor for São Paulo, Aurélio Miguel recognizes the importance of this event for the development of the sport.

“The Grand Slam was a great tournament and this World Cup in São Paulo will also show how capable Brazil is to hold competitions like this. Moreover, the Brazilian judokas will have the chance to fight with some of the best athletes in the world. It is very important for Brazil to be in the World Circuit because, now that the events are worth points for the Olympic ranking, the athletes will want to come here to qualify for the Games, which didn’t happen before”, said Aurélio Miguel.

Rogério Sampaio remembered how when he was a pro-athlete he didn’t have the same chance to take part in an international event at home.

“When I was at the peak of my carreer, I never had the chance to show it to my friends and family. It is definitely a dream come true to hold events like the Grand Slam and the World Cup in Brazil. It makes me really happy to be able to be part and to see an event so well organized and with remarkable judokas from all over the world”, said Rogério.
