National squad receives orientation on the Doping Control

All the athletes of the Brazilian team who are taking part in the training camp of Sao Paulo had the opportunity to have their questions asked and know a little about the system which controls the use of prohibited substances. The specialist in doping control, Alexandre Velly Nunes, held a lecture about it in front of 33 judokas. He could show them all the steps taken by judokas during doping tests, the classification of prohibited substances and create an overall picture of the likely punishment for each case.

Velly also made clear that there is a difference between tests done during competition and those that are off competition, meaning those that can be performed any time by WADA (International Anti-Doping Agency). Among the analyzed substances, the cannabinoids and corticosteroids-related ones stay out. However, he warned against drinking teas or other natural substances because they may contain the active ingredient of some prohibited drugs and, in this case, the punishment is the same .

\"This initiative taken by BJC is great. This division between two groups was perfect because the athletes had the opportunity to have their questions answered. I think it was very productive and the Confederation deserves congratulations.\" Velly said.

The athletes participating in the training were subjected to doping tests, which has been a regular practice since 2012. Last year there have been 55 tests performed on 35 athletes on behalf of BJC, each of them costing 2000 reals.
