Mizuno Representatives Visit the Brazilian Judo Team in Saquarema
Akihiro Oikawa made some measurements to the athletes in order to adjust the judogis to the new rule.
The athletes of the Brazilian National Judo Team received on Tuesday afternoon, February 3rd, Akihiro Oikawa, a Mizuno representative, for a couple of tests and measurements on the new judogis. The Japanese’s detailed work as well as his assistant’s was practically a tailoring work.
With the recent changes regarding the judogi rules, Mizuno, the official supplier of sports equipment of the Brazilian Judo Confederation, sent two representatives to Brazil to take the measures of the Brazilian athletes and manufacture the new judogis. All the athletes of the national team have gone through the "ruler" of Mr. Oikawa and they will soon receive their customizes judogis.
While trying on their new armor, some judokas perceived changes in texture and weight, mainly from the garment. "It's very light. Looks like I'm not wearing anything. But it feels good," Mayra Aguiar said. "It's thiner," noted Marcelo Contini. The good-humored Rafaela Silva joked with the fact that the judogi is the ideal size for her: "He said that I'm a model, ok?"
This measurement work made by Mizuno for the athletes is performed only with the Brazilian and Japanese national teams, once a year. In 2014, measurements were taken in Japan, when the team took part in a training camp in Tokyo. This year, the company sent its expert to Brazil.
