Mayra Aguiar Gets the Red Backnumber
A right reserved only to world champions. This is the meaning of the red backnumber, an honor which has been promoted by the International Judo Federation since last year. On Tuesday, October 09th, it was Mayra Aguiar’s turn, world champion in the half-heavyweight category in Chelyabinsk 2014 World Judo Championship in which she defeated her French rival, Audrey Tcheumeo, to receive home her identification at exclaimed: "It has just arrived! The red Backnumber ! World champion! "Thus, the athlete changes her blue backnumber for the red one.
Mayra may wear her new identification for the first time during Tokyo Grand Slam but she is already thinking about another backnumber, the gold one, exclusive of Olympic champions.
"I’m very happy! I think the kimono will look better with the red number. I hope my first wear bring me luck both in my fight and in the journey towards the Olympics. And I hope the red backnumber turn red gold, " the athlete from Sogipa said.
In the national team, Sarah Menezes is the only one who has a different backnumber, bro being the current Olympic champion in the light-weight category (48kg).
