Mariana Barros Is in the Fifth Position in Tokyo

Mariana Barros was the best placed Brazilian athlete on the second day of competition at Tokyo Grand Slam. The half-middleweight was in the fifth place, after having been defeated by the Korean Da- Woon Juong in the contention for bronze (hansokumake by four punishments). Katherine Campos, half-middleweight as well, and Alex Pombo, lightweight, were defeated in the repechage and reached the seventh position. Pigeon faced Tsagaanbaatar Khashbaatar (MGL) while Katherine fought against Mika Tanaka (JPN). Mariana Barros, in the repechage, defeated the Dutch world medalist Anicka van Emden.

The other three Brazilians fighting this Saturday lost in the first round: Marcelo Contini (73kg) could not resist Yartsev Dmitriy (RUS) and Maria Portela and Nadia Merli in the 70kg category) were defeated by Gazieva Irina ( RUS ) and Haruka Tachimoto ( JPN ) .

Japan confirmed its strength, winning nine gold medals in the nine categories they participated so far. In 2012, the hosts took 10 out of 14 gold awards at Tokyo Grand Slam.

This Sunday, the last day of competition, the mat was stepped by the Brazilian middleweight Eduardo Santos Eduardo Bettoni , the half heavyweight Rafael Nunes and Renan Buzzacarini and the heavy Rafael Silva, David Moura, Maria Suellen Altheman and Rochelle Nunes. Starting from 5:00 ( GMT), SporTV , ESPN Brazil Sports Interactive will live broadcast the finals.
