Maria Portela Gets Bronze in Tashkent

Brazil ended its participation in the Grand Prix with another bronze medal. After Eleudis Valentim’s third place (52kg) from Thursday, October 16th, Maria Portela reached on the podium after defeating the Israeli Lior Wildikan by ippon (immobilization) in the contention for bronze.

Brazil has also fought for two more medals this Friday. Nadia Merli (70kg) had a good performance in the fight against the Polish Katarzyna Klyz, bronze-awarded in Chelyabinsk  2014 World Judo Championship, but she suffered a punishment and so she ended up in fifth place.

In half middleweight category, Mariana Silva (63kg) has also reached the final block but she finished in fifth place. The athlete from Minas started well the fight for bronze and forced a punishment for Martyna Trajdos (GER). But because of a moment of lack of attention, she was projected by a ouchi-gari that yielded a wazari for the German. Searching for the ippon, Mariana attacked and ended up suffering a counter attack that was worth a yuko for Trajdos. The German controlled the fight until the end and Mariana ended up in fifth place.

Leandro Guilheiro (81kg) and Katherine Campos (63kg) fought well today but did not reach the final block.
