Luciano Correa Opens the 2014 Season with a Gold Medal at Oberwart
The world champion from 2007 gave no chance to his opponents, won the four fights and went to the top of the podium.
The Brazilian Team’s weekend of competition in Europe ended this Sunday (16) in Oberwart, Austria, with a gold medal. Luciano Correa starts 2014 successfully, being champion in his first season’s international event. In the campaign, the winner of the World Judo Championship of 2007, Luciano Correa (100kg), opened the campaign by defeating Toma Nikiforov (BEL). Then, he defeated Christoph Kronberger (AUT) and Ivan Remarenco (UAE) and in the decision he beated Chingiz Mamedov (CHI) and so he ensured the achievement.
The other Brazilians could not win the medal. Eduado Bettoni ( 90kg ) lost in the first round disputed against Gergo Fogasy ( HUN ) ; Eduardo Santos ( 90kg ) applied an ippon to Valeriu Chisca (UAE), but then he fell in the second round, where he faced Laurin Boehler (AUT) ; Renan Nunes ( 100kg ) could not win the first fight against Chingiz Mamedov (QUI) ; Hugo Pessanha could not overcome the first round either, where he faced Ryosuke Takahashi (JAP); Rafael Buzacarini (100kg) was defeated by Cirjenics Miklos (HUN), David Moura (+ 100kg) started winning over Yakiv Khammo (UKR), but he ended up being defeated by Takeshi Ojitani (JAP) and Soslan Bostanov , getting no medal.
On Wednesday (19), the team meets in Germany, where they will dispute Grand Prix from Dusseldorf next weekend. Rafael Silva will be the only member of the group that goes directly to the German tournament, even if he did not compete in the Opens from Rome or Oberwart.
