London 2012: 17 athletes meet the qualifying criteria.
According to the qualifying criteria, the 22 men and 14 women better placed on the list guarantee a place to fight in London. Athletes from the same country are discarded. Four Brazilian judokas would benefit from this rule. In the 81kg category Flávio Canto, currently in 26th place, would jump to 20th. Daniela Polzin, who in number 18, would be number 12. And Maria Portela (18th place) would be in the 11th position. The twice champion of the world, João Derly would go from 35th place to 21st.
The qualification of the athletes for the London Olympic Games will take into account the results obtained from the first of May 2010 to 30th of April 2012. The points are good through two years, having 100% of their value during the first 12 months after they were won and 50% from the 13th to the 24th month. After the 25th month they expire.
