Ketleyn Quadros is gold-awarded in Kazan
The Olympic medalist from Beijing won the third Brazilian medal in the Universiade
On the third competition day on the tatamis in the Universiade, Brazil won a new gold medal. Ketleyn Quadros (57kg) took a path that led to perfection: she won four out of five fights, including the final one against the Ukrainian judoka, Shushana Hevondian, whom she defeated by Ippon.
\"I\'m very happy. The Universiade is a very hard competition. At the end of the fight I felt like dancing, but it was a shame I couldn’t. My friends have always told that the Universiade was renowed as having a highly technical level. I have always wanted to participate to it, but I could not find any available time in my schedule. This year I won the national selective process and I\'m taking a gold medal right from the beginning. That’s fantastic. It is once in a life chance.\" Ketleyn said.
It was the second Brazilian gold medal in Kazan. The other was brought on Sunday by Rochele Nunes (+78 kg) in her thrilling victory on the Olympic champion Idelys Ortiz, Cuba. The Brazilian athlete was losing the fight because of penalties, but on the last four seconds, Rochelle launched a desperate attack, and with a lavish technique, she applied a Yuko and took the first Brazilian medal in the Universiade.
\"I\'m very happy not only of having won, but of having done it that way. I have always wanted to win a medal like that, in the last seconds, but it was hard to believe it would be possible some day. Making this dream come true and fighting against the Olympic champion is fantastic.\" said the first Brazilian medal-awarded in Universiade.
On Sunday, Brazil won a bronze medal brought by Rafael Buzacarini. The athlete of Barra Bonita, São Paulo, proved once again that he is a promising judoka and he stopped only when he faced the same tormentor from Grand Prix of Miami, the Russian athlete, Zafar Makhmadov, ranked eighteenth position. He defeated by Ippon the Kyrgyz Toktogonov Bolot, as well as the Egyptian Mahmoud Gaballa, and because of having fewer penalties against the Uzbek Soyib Kurbonov made Rafael win the medal, after the fight against the Estonian Grigori Minashkin.
\"It\'s very important to win a medal in a competition with the technical level of Universiade. The result shows that I\'m growing and adapting to the style of fighting practiced abroad.\" Rafael Buzacarini analyzed.
The other Brazilians who fought this Tuesday in Russia did not come to fight for medals. Raquel Silva (52kg) crashed in the beginning against the South Korean Kim Miri, whom he was defeating by Wazari if it hadn’t been the last Ippon; Luiz Revite came to defeat the Chinese Li Jiahong in his first fight, but he had no luck in the next fight against the Georgian Altansukh Dovdon, who applied the Brazilian a Wazari and managed to stay away from the Athlete of São Bernardo do Campo; João Macedo (73kg) applied an Ippon against the Czech Vaclav Sedmidubsky and in the next fight against the Romanian Denis Mititelu, João put again the opponent on the mat; however he was defeated later by the South Korean, Wang Kichun, and in repechage, by the Italian Andrea Regis.
On Monday, no Brazilian athletes who entered the mat could fight for medals. Mariana Silva (63kg) was defeated by the German Claudia Ahrens; Vinicius Panini (73kg) won over the Belarusian Fetra Nantenaina Ratsimiziva in his first fight, but in the next one he was applied an Ippon by the French Guillaume Riou; Barbara Timo (70kg) started well, applying an Ippon on the Ukrainian Maryna Andriievska, but she wasn’t lucky against the South Korean Hwang Ye Sul and the German Barbara Bendel; Eduardo Silva (90kg) was overcome by Donghan Gwak, from South Korea, right from the first fight.
Brazil is back on the mat this Wednesday, when the extra lighweight Catiere Moya and Phellipe Pelim against Han Sa (CHI) and Marek Pentka (SLK) are going to end our country’s participation.
