Geraldo Alckmin Is Promoted to Honorary Black Belt by FP Judo
The Governor of São Paulo was promoted at an event at the Bandeirantes Palace, on Monday, May 4th.
Next to about twelve hundred athletes, the governor of São Paulo, Geraldo Alckmin, was promoted to honorary judo black belt at an event sponsored by the Paulista Judo Federation on Monday, 05th, at the Bandeirantes Palace, the headquarters of the state government.
Besides sports officials such as the president of FP Judo, Alessandro Panitz Puglia, the vice-president of the Brazilian Judo Confederation, Francisco de Carvalho Filho, and the Sports, Leisure and Youth Secretary of the State of São Paulo, Jean Madeira, who is also judoka, the event was attended by three Olympic Brazilian judo medalists: Douglas Vieira (silver-awarded in Los Angeles 1984), Henrique Guimarães (bronze in Atlanta 1996) and Rogério Sampaio (gold in Barcelona 1992).
After receiving the honorary award, the governor noted that today the judo is the second sport followed by practitioners in Brazil, the first one being the soccer. And the highlight of the event was when an official document which included the São Paulo Judo Cup in the State Government Calendar was signed.
