Gabriela Chibana and Phelipe Pelim Win Two More Medals for Brazil in the 2015 Universiade

She took the silver and he won the bronze on the next to last day of competition, both in the lightweight category.

The Brazilian judo climbed the podium twice again during the Universiade Gwangju 2015. Gabriela Chibana (48kg) won silver and Phelipe Pelim (60kg) bronze in the fights that took place on Tuesday morning in South Korea. Considering the bronze Gustavo Assis (90kg) won on Sunday, Brazil has got three judo medals by now.

The  female athlete from São Camilo University Center (SP) stole the show in the extra-light category in which the current world champion Urantsetseg Munkhbat from Mongolia was registred. Before reaching the final, Chibana won four fights against the following competitors: Yao Xiong (CHN), Jenna Schurr (USA), Imene Rezzoug (ALG) and Cristina Budescu (MDA). In the decision, she was overcome by the home athlete, the Southern Korean Jeong Bokyeong, by waza-ari.

"There were five strong fights. In the final, I faced the Southern Korean, against whom I had fought a few times before. She has won several medals in international competitions, she is well positioned in the world ranking, worth for the Olympics. I ended up losing in the beginning and I could not change it. But I'm happy with this medal since judo is a very competitive sport and it is my first time here at Universiade, " the Brazilian athlete stated.

The bronze won by Phelipe Pelim (60kg) was due to an ippon, his fourth in the competition, against the Mongolian Bayarmagnai Dagvadorj.

"It was a tough fight. The athlete I faced in the contention for bronze was a very prepared opponent and had the same fighting style I have. We had a strong striking, but when I saw a chance to fit a blow I didn’t wait much and I did it" Pelim says. Before that, the Brazilian had defeated Armando Maita (VEN), Hui Li (CHN) and Christos Trikomitis, Cyprus. His only defeat was in the quarter-finals against the Russian Albert Oguzov.

In the early hours of Tuesday to Wednesday, the fights by teams are the last part of the judo competition at the 2015 Universiade.
